Microwave Milk Peda !

We once had to visit one of my husbands friend who just had a baby girl, we were running late n were not sure if we would have enough time to pick some sweets on the way, that was the first time I tried these Pedas .....ready in a jiffy....n it was a huge hit in their family ... I have made these many times since then ....after all who does not want a quick n fuss free dessert !

So when I learnt about Srivalli's Microwave Easy Cooking Event I thought of sharing this recipe of Milk Peda with all of you.

Come to think of it, it would also make a good picnic food, a traditional Indian dessert for picnic in park :)

Ingredients:

1n 3/4th cup Milk powder,
1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz.),
1tbsp. butter, at room temperature,
1/4th tsp. cardamom/elaichi pdr.,
few strings saffron, crushed or whole,
few chironji/ sunflower seeds , slightly dry roasted, to garnish, optional.

Method:
Whisk together milk powder, condensed milk n cardamom pdr. You can also beat the mixture nicely using a fork. Add butter n whisk again for a min. Stir in the saffron n mix well . Now microwave this mixture on high for 2 mins. Remove, let cool slightly, so that you can handle it with your hands.Grease your hands with a little ghee, make small balls of the mixture while its still warm n flatten slightly or roll in desired shapes. Garnish with sunflower seeds/ saffron strands. You can also use a toothpick to decorate.

As simple as that, this recipe is also very versatile. You can try the same recipe with different combinations of flavorings and garnishes . You may also add more milk powder if you experience problem forming the pedas. Enjoy !

hi rahin i make this peda from this reciepe its delicious but i think its sticky any ways but really good in taste

Anonymous said...

hi anonymous , thanks for trying this recipe, ya ....i know its very sticky due to the melted condensed milk while its hot , so after removing it from the microwave let it cool so the milk solidifies a bit n while its still a bit warm grease your hands liberally n make pedas , n eat the pedas when they r completely cool :).......n if this doesnt work n the mixture is still sticky u can add some more milk powder n mix well then form the pedas ....hope this will be of help :D

hey where do we get milk powder in US?Looks very yummy!!!...

Anonymous said...

hi suba , u get milk powder in almost all superstores n even desi/indian grocery stores.

Anonymous said...

hi just tried your recipe.........very easy to make , the pedas look just like the one in your picture.......but they have turned out a little chewy/gummy when u eat them......whats the reason.......

rahin said...

Thanks for your feedback
I can think of two possible reasons ....first since its basically condensed milk n milk powder cooked together ...n the condensed milk does become sticky after heating .. so it needs some resting time ...like eat it after few hours or may be the next day so that its completely cooled n set ....or second try adding few more tsps of milk powder ...hope this helps

Very easy and quick way to make pandas. I am 15 and I love pandas and I have been lookin for a quick but delicious way to make pandas. And this recipe is exactly what I have been lookin for, it makes it even better when the only thing you need is a microwave to heat them up, so theres no way I can get burned. Thank you so much for this recipe.

Hi, very interesting, thank you so much for this recipe! Just 1 question - how long will these last in or out of fridge?

Thanks again,
Smita

Thank you for the recipe. I just tried this today. It tasted awesome, but it was sticky. What am I doing wrong? Should I have cooked it longer in the microwave? Any thoughts?

Thanks
SG

Rahin said...

Hi Smita, these should last for about a week in refrigerator or for abt 2 days out of it , just make sure you take them out of the fridge atleast half an hr before serving , serve it at room temperature. Thanks for dropping by and I hope you enjoy this recipe

Hi SG, I think there could be two reasons, either it needed more milk powder or it needed to be cooked longer. It does become sticky after heating in microwave but thickens once slightly cooled.

Thanks for dropping by and trying the recipe

hi ...this recipe looks super easy...i remember my mom making something similar but she added ground cinnamon :D...

also just a tip adding half a cup of fresh homemade paneer..makes the mixture less chewy and more gooey......as well as more springy
